It was my first visit to Cé La Vi (sic), a snazzy bar/bistro high up in the Breeze tower, the 48th floor, which makes it just short of half way up Taipei 101, just across the way. The occasion was a product launch for Amazon International Food, who were introducing their newest product, farmed sea bass from the west coast of Thailand. The fish pens enjoy strong ocean current that constantly replaces the water and exercises the fish so that they mature firm and healthy.
The production value of this event was amazing. Cameras were everywhere filming the festivities as we enjoyed 6 different pairings, with wines from ENOTECA, and Golden Sea Bass prepared 6 different ways. It was non-stop photo opps with ZhaZha dressed as a Thai princess and even a DJ, and he was very good.
I can’t imagine the organizers gave a moment’s thought to budget. Beautiful women surrounded us, pouring wine and making small talk. The food and wine kept flowing, and at the end we all received an insulated bag with our own Golden Sea Bass to cook at home.
Ours was excellent, except I’m not that good at scaling. After struggling with the oversized scales I steamed the fish in ginger, sesame oil, PaPoJi, and a little rice wine. Covered in sliced scallions, it was delicious.
