Javier Arauz, Wine Educator.

Until very recently and from the time the Academy was founded, Javier has worked closely with Pancho Campo, the first Spanish MW, as the Director of the Wine Academy of Spain. He is a WSET Recommended Tutor and Official Sherry Educator. He is one of the developers of the Spanish Wine Educators program, an international course promoting Spanish wine, and has delivered over 20 of these courses all over North America and Europe, aided by his experience of many years as a speaker and event organizer.

His professional training includes courses at the University of California at Davis, in the United Kingdom, Portugal and with Professor Richard Smart. Also, and most important, is his direct experience engaging with growers, winemakers and other industry professionals from major growing regions of the World.

Javier firmly believes that education at all levels is key in the promotion of wine and culture, to aid in the development of consumption in a responsible and moderate way.

Together with his wife Wendy, a Canadian ISG/ISA Sommelier Educator and Spanish Wine Educator, they have launched ‘New Spain Wines & the Ocea Mae European Sommelier Institute, focusing on an outstanding Export Portfolio, as well as Consulting, and Wine Education. Their business philosophy endorses the education of Importers, Distributors, Retailers, Sommeliers, and especially, the end consumer, whom with tasting is used as one of the major educational components in introducing Spanish grapes, wine styles, regions, and culture.
